History of The Butler Building

Sanford Hoyt Butler purchased a parcel of land on Milledge Avenue in the early sixties and began construction on The Butler Building.  The building was completed and occupied by April 1967.  That is how The Butler Building got it's name.

Hoyt Butler, as he was known to friends and family, also built 21 duplex apartments on South Pope Street which is located off Baxter Street and adjacent to the University of Georgia.  The apartments were named Bromsgrove Apartments after a school in England where his grandson, Scott Butler attended.   Hoyt Butler and Rubye Butler had a daughter named Gloria and son Sanford.  Sanford was instrumental in construction of the Butler Building and other projects.  Gloria married Lanier Cobb who everyone knows as "Skeet" in 1954 and over the years as Hoyt and Rubye grew older Gloria and Skeet began to run the Butler Building operations.  Rubye died unexpectedly in 1980 and Hoyt died approximately two years later.

Skeet and Gloria Cobb have run The Butler Building since before 1980.  During that time they have involved their two children in the business in order to learn how to take care of all clients large and small which rent office space in The Butler Building.  Plans are being developed to automate business processes to take care of customers more rapidly and to maximize use of computer technology, the internet and other technological developments to provide the level of service that customers expect from modern office facilities.  For further information please feel free to contact us by fax, telephone, e-mail or personal visit.  Click here for contact information.
